Christian Bale as the Batman

As most people know by now, Christian Bale was chosen to play the Dark Knight. Which I will forever be grateful for.

Bale is one of the most talented actors of his generation. If you broke down his role, you would find its mainly three characters:

  • Bruce as Batman
  • Bruce Wayne as public figure/ billionaire playboy
  • The real Bruce Wayne

Christian Bale does an excellent job of combining all three aspects to absolute perfection. His performance showing us it’s still the same person is crystal clear.

Also, he uses two voices. One as Bruce Wayne, and the other one as Batman. Some people still make jokes about it in sketches, but in the movie, it worked out really well.

Nolan’s approach for the origin story

Nolan explores Bruce Wayne’s backstory during the first hour of “Batman Begins.” The story is so fascinating that we, as an audience, don’t mind he’s not wearing a cape yet.

He succeeded where his predecessors failed to do. Giving us a real sense of who Bruce Wayne is. We genuinely see what drives him and why he won’t break his golden rule.

Before “Batman Begins,” superhero movies were never supposed to feel real. But Christopher Nolan gave this a realistic, gritty, dark approach. It made me consider if I should go and wear a cape. But, I don’t have the skills, so I’m staying home …

And, oh boy! I remember having goosebumps when he first appeared as the Batman.

Batman as a symbol

Wearing a hero costume can come off as silly or cringy. I don’t know if any movie before explained why they were wearing it.

This movie made sure to make us understand why it’s so important to be dressed as a bat.

Fighting crime in a suit can protect the ones that are closed to you. But it’s not only about that. A man can be destroyed and locked up, but a symbol represents more than just a man. Liam Neeson speech tells us everything we need to know:

Conclusion

Christopher Nolan changed the game for superhero movies. He saved a franchise and made it an unforgettable film.

No other Batman Movie has portrayed Batman truly as the Dark Knight.
