From the sea to land

A little sea creature with blue hair is curious about life on land. And just like that, as soon as Luca surfaces near the Italian town of Portorosso, he changes into a 13-year-old boy as if by magic. Together with his friend Alberto, who also comes from the sea and already has a little more experience on dry land, Luca sets out to discover the wonderful world of humans.

The latest Disney/Pixar animation is a cheerful, summer coming-of-age adventure of a boy who is used to fins and must learn to stand on his feet before he can go out. In Portorosso, a colorful town in the atmosphere of the 1950s, Luca discovers many things like eating ice cream for the first time. He also dreams about a red Vespa, a classic Italian scooter, and gazes at the starry sky. Together with Giulia, a cute, red-haired girl, the friends take on the villain in the story in a tournament.

At first, I wasn’t fond of the scenes that were happening in the sea as I felt I’ve already seen plenty of movies like these. From the moment he discovered land, everything got better. I’m a simple guy who likes adventure, and it all felt like that. Luca and Alberto were on an all-new adventure.

Beware of the rain

In the meantime, Luca and Alberto have to be careful, because as soon as they come into contact with water, they turn into sea creatures again. The people in the story are afraid of these creatures and want to eradicate them. So you quickly understand why the two friends want to keep this a secret. So they also have to watch out for the rain. Or when they get into a boat or near a fountain.

I have to talk about the cat! I’m going to keep it short on that part, but there is a cat and that animal is the best part of the film. You’ll find out why!

Besides that, it is a story about friendship and dreams. Alberto, who feels like a lone wolf, looks for adventure together with his new friend. On the other hand, Luca finds that there is still a lot to learn about the world and wants to expand his knowledge to do so. In other words, a school would be the ideal place for him.

On top of all, Luca’s parents are afraid of the surface world and tell Luca to never go there. However, as you might already have guessed, Luca is too curious about it. You know, like everyone, kids will always do what we don’t want them to do.

Conclusion

I wasn’t sure about the new Disney movie, Luca. The beginning scared me a little that I would find this one boring. However, I didn’t expect to like it so much, but I’m glad I did. It’s such a feel-good summer story. A must-see for kids of all ages!
