Quick Reviews, part 4, is here. This is where I review movies but very shortly as I can’t do all of them. After all, I’m just one guy.

Does that mean these films are less important? No, but I don’t have the time to do a long review on them all. There is still a possibility that I will make a long review of one of the mentioned films in the future.

Nomadland (2020)

Director: Chloé Zhao
Writers: Jessica Bruder, Chloé Zhao
Cast: Frances McDormand, David Strathairn, Linda May

You might be surprised that Nomadland is on a quick review post. The reason it doesn’t gets a huge post is that I don’t have much to say about it. Sure, it’s an excellent movie. However, it wasn’t my cup of thee. Now, that doesn’t take away how amazing Nomadland truly is. Frances McDormand is outstanding in her role and she definetely deserved that oscar win.

The Dig (2021)

Director: Simon Stone
Writers: Moira Buffini, John Preston
Cast: Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James

The story is quite simple. An archaeologist begins the historically significant excavation of Sutton Hoo in 1938. Yet it is the cinematography that so astounds me. There are a lot of beautiful images in this film and wonderful camera work. The human relationships in this little film are also an asset.

Tron: Legacy (2010)

Director: Joseph Kosinski
Writers: Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz
Cast: Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde

This is a film that should simply be taken for what it is. A concession to the original fan base while amassing new fans. Yet it failed to grab me as a new viewer. Yes, there are some nice special effects, but that was it.

Palmer (2021)

Director: Fisher Stevens
Writer: Cheryl Guerriero
Cast: Justin Timberlake, Juno Temple, Alisha Wainwright

Justin Timberlake deals as Palmer with a boy who likes to play with girl toys and dress like a princess. In the process, the boy has very bad parents who are unable to look after him? That doesn’t make it any less heartwarming and sweet. I think JT (Palmer) did a great job, I’ve always found him a good actor. Sam was really good, for a child actor, I think he got it! It’s a feel good movie.

Ride Along (2014)

Director: Tim Story
Writers: Greg Coolidge, Jason Mantzoukas
Cast: Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Tika Sumpter

Kevin Hart and Ice Cube in one movie must be hilarious right? Still, I found Ride Along very disappointing. The majority of the jokes simply don’t land. There are moments where I laughed, but simply not enough.

Yes Day

Director: Miguel Arteta
Writers: Justin Malen, Justin Malen
Cast: Jennifer Garner, Edgar Ramírez, Jenna Ortega

The movie pleasantly surprised me. It is funny, family friendly and has a little humor for everyone. Yes Day is especially a family movie that is great for parents with children. Still, I enjoyed this even if I don’t have kids.
