Harry Potter
Harry Potter is now a world-famous name. The character created by J.K. Rowling was introduced in the first volume of the book series in 1997. In 2001, the first part was filmed with the young Daniel Radcliffe in the young wizard’s apprentice’s role. Chris Columbus was appointed to direct the film, and the director has created a very entertaining and yet magical fantasy film. Thanks not only to the enchanting world of Harry Potter but also to the excellent acting, the beautiful visual effects and the wonderful soundtrack by composer John Williams.
Everyone knows at least someone who is a massive fan of the franchise. Even I read the books when I was younger except for the fourth and fifth ones. I skipped those because I wanted to be ahead of the movies at that time. I’m actually considering reading all the books again in English because I used to read them in Dutch. However, I’m reading the Witcher books now, and I first want to finish those.
I was a bit skeptical if I was going to like it as much since it’s been a long time. Well, I actually really was never bored and watched Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with a smile on my phase. I was entertained for the entire run of the movie.

You’re a Wizard, Harry!
Harry Potter stays with his aunt and uncle after his parents die, but at age 11, he receives a letter from Albus Dumbledore (Richard Harris). The headmaster of Hogwarts. The school for wizards and witches. Harry turns out to be a wizard, and the time has come for him to develop his talents. Harry, therefore, leaves for the magical world with fresh courage where he receives guidance from groundsman Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane), befriends classmates Ronald (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), and discovers the truth about his parents’ death and the distinctive scar on his forehead.
In addition, there is some mystery happening at the school of Hogwarts. So, Harry and his friends take it upon themselves to do some research and unveil the truth. When you know about the movie’s ending, it’s kind of funny because you’re starting to notice stuff. Okay, I’ll give you a spoiler alert for the following to explain this.
When you know, professor Quirrell is the villain. You actually see how he was involved the entire time. The first time when Harry gave Snape a suspicious look because his scare was flaring up was because professor Quirrell was standing next to him.
Magical
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is, therefore, a very entertaining and child-friendly fantasy film. With some exciting moments, but mostly with lots of humor and adventure. The first film serves as an introduction to the various characters, the magical world, and the associated strange terms, and the story surrounding Harry Potter and his archenemy Voldemort. It is a nice stepping stone to what is yet to come, and the series has no less than eight parts. With the help of beautiful visual effects, the magical world is excellently brought to life, although the effects are a bit dated.
I forgot how special effects looked like back in 2001. Sometimes it really feels like a video game. Like that Troll scene, for example, when Harry was on his neck was weird. For a moment, he turned into a video game character which is hilarious. Thankfully, with every movie that comes along, the effects are getting better.
One of my favorite parts is, without a doubt, the Quidditch game. I always loved it when a universe had its own game, and it looked fantastic. Unfortunately, there is no magic in the real world, so we won’t be able to play this game in real life unless on a video game. However, some people play it in real life, but they’re not really flying on broomsticks.
In Hogwarts, students are divided into four factions. Harry Potter and his friends are part of Gryffindor. And for some kind of reason, all the school’s baddies are part of Slytherin, like Draco Malfius. I don’t know why it’s appealing to have different factions in schools. In real life, this would just divide us even more, to be honest. However, this is is still a fantasy film.
Conclusion
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone sets an amazing world of wizards and one of the most memorable franchises. Even today, it still holds up as a fun, family-friendly movie that brings a smile to everyone’s face.
