A thrilling movie
I started watching this movie when I had heard good things about it. However, I didn’t know what it was about at all before I started the film. At first, I thought it was going to be a serious drama film, but very soon, there will be a twist.
In Run, home-schooled high school student Chloe (Allen) lives a withdrawn life under the ever-watchful eye of her mother, Diane (Paulson). And the mother does everything so that she wouldn’t leave the nest. I should have known this was a horror movie when I saw Sarah Paulson, though.
This film is terrifying when you discover the mother’s motives and how crazy she really is. It actually reminded me a bit of “Get Out,” especially because they want to escape the house of crazy people in both movies.
When home isn’t what it should be
Although Run has a simple starting point, it is much more than it seems. You feel the fear and the feeling of being locked up like Chloe. This is mainly because she is also in a wheelchair, making it even more difficult to escape.
The mother wants to protect her, so to speak and assumes that her child constantly needs her. Unfortunately, this mother’s child does not need protection from outsiders. Chloe’s biggest threat is the woman who repeatedly swears she will never hurt her.
If the person you should count on most becomes the person who eventually frightens you, then you really get a feeling of loneliness and desperation. Well, in a scary way. She’s also schooled at home, so she doesn’t have many friends or people she can go to. That just adds to the frightening experience.
Conclusion
Run (2020) is amazingly exciting and scary, like a thriller as it is supposed to be. In addition, it’s not too long, which is fine for this film.
