A nineties classic
Men in Black is one of the best comedies of the nineties if you ask me. The leading roles are for Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones who join forces and fight against the scum of the universe.
At the time of its release in 1997, anything to do with life outside our planet was a hot topic. The television series The X-Files in which FBI agents Mulder and Scully hunt down aliens and Roland Emmerich’s blockbuster Independence Day in which a race of hostile aliens blow up the world’s cities, made the Sci-Fi genre a huge success.
I’ve seen this movie a thousand times when I was little. Back then, I always loved it when there was action. With the hilarious big and small futuristic weapons and of course, Will Smith was getting really popular. I remember that I was always looking forward to the last scenes when they confront the alien threat. Those scenes were awesome.

Men in Black
Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and J (Will Smith) are part of a secret organization, better known as the Men in Black. The coolest organization ever, monitoring extraterrestrial life on Earth, but also protecting humanity from the imminent danger that is constantly present. When a giant alien cockroach comes to Manhattan to subdue the world’s population, J and K are called in to stop this dangerous creature.
The chemistry between the two actors is clearly present and that is also well received by the audience. The acting is good and there is enough room for humor. Will Smith actually plays someone who just became part of the Men in Black, with a wild attitude. Agent K, on the other hand, remains calm in every scenario. Yet this combination functions very well. Especially Smith’s silly facial expressions and his witty remarks often result in more than a greasy smile on the face, while Jones’ dry humour doesn’t go unnoticed either.
Entertaining
In between laughs we can enjoy plenty of action and beautiful special effects. Especially the computer animations (especially for that time) are nicely worked out. Because of the fast pace and the airy atmosphere, the movie looks nice and there is no room to get bored. That is exactly the reason why I love this print.
Remains after all these years a strong film full of humor, action and filthy aliens. The most important asset of the film is the interplay between Jones and Smith, and their witty dialogues. Also, some other aliens are awesome to see and sometimes hilarious. For example, Frank The Pug, that one was my favorite of them all. A talking alien dog, why the hell not!
Conclusion
Men in Black is a fun comedy with aliens, which I have watched so many times before. I still love this movie, and it makes me feel nostalgic.
