It’s getting darker, wintertime is coming and pumpkins suddenly appear everywhere: it’s October. Which means: Almost Halloween. Which means: horror movies.
I give you 10 Halloween movies suitable for the diehard horror fanatic but also for those who go for the treats rather than the tricks. There is something for every creep. I tip you the best titles for a spooky scary evening.

Hubie Halloween
Hubie Halloween is not a horror movie in the category of scary but a comic family movie with Halloween as a theme. Very suitable for those who actually prefer not to watch horror. The cast is full of famous names like Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Maya Rudolph, Ray Liotta, Rob Schneider, Shaquille O’Neal, Steve Buscemi, and more.
Every year Hubie Dubois makes sure that his city can safely celebrate Halloween. This year, with an escaped criminal and a new local resident, Hubie is extra vigilant. As soon as people start disappearing, Hubie does everything he can to convince the police and local residents that danger is lurking. But, nobody believes him, so Hubie knows he is the only one who can stop it.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
This classic among horror films got a remake in 2010 with Rooney Mara, Jackie Earle Haley, Katie Cassidy, and Kyle Gallner and can now be streamed on Netflix. This version is not exactly the same as the original from 1984 and goes more into the origins of Freddie Krueger. Of course, you can choose whether you go for the classic or the new one.
A Nightmare on Elm Street takes place around the friends: Dean, Chris, Nancy, Quentin, and Jesse, who in their dreams are haunted by a figure devised with burns and razors on his hands. It turns out that the friends, who thought they got to know each other for the first time in high school, share a further past with each other. A past related to the murder of Freddy Krueger. The more memories the girlfriend has, the more dangerous the nightmares become, with even deadly consequences.

A Quiet Place
Hollywood sometimes shows its ironic side. Who would have thought that Michael Bay – the uncrowned king of noisy popcorn entertainment – would link his name to a film in which everything revolves around being quiet? He acts as a producer, but fortunately, his fascination with explosions didn’t affect the end result. All praise goes to actor and director John Krasinski, who made an oppressive horror debut with A Quiet Place.
What if you live in a world where you cannot make a sound because otherwise, mysterious murdering creatures will come at you? While watching this film, you hardly dare to make a sound yourself.

The Haunted Mansion
This classic by Disney, with Eddie Murphy, is scary and super funny. A good choice for a cozy Halloween night with friends or family. I remember that my mom used to love this film, so it’s a perfect fit for a family movie.
A movie named after an attraction in Disneyland can only be a spooky adventure for the whole family. Eddie Murphy takes his family to an abandoned mansion but soon discovers that paranormal powers are at work…

The Conjuring
There is something behind you! With The Conjuring, James Wan delivers an old-fashioned haunted house movie. James Wan is also known for his film Insidious.
If you dare to look at it with your eyes open and then go to sleep, you really are a badass. I’ve been turning on my lights everywhere for days. However, my house has no demons. And no one was murdered here in the past, or so I hope.

Get out
Excitement, humor, mystery, and satire coincide perfectly in the directorial debut of Jordan Peele. Honestly, it’s on my watchlist for this Halloween.
Update: I’ve seen it now, and click here for my review
When it is time for Chris to meet his in-laws, he is a little nervous about how they will react. Although at first, it seems like the family is super fun, it soon turns around. They seem to have a dark secret that could cost Chris his life. This movie is not only super scary but also plays on interracial relationships in the US.

Beetlejuice
Michael Keaton is Beetlejuice in this great movie by Tim Burton. Say it once… Say it twice… But we dare you to say it THREE TIMES.
After Adam and Barbara Maitland die together in a car accident, she is told that they must continue to live as ghosts in their own homes. The couple likes this very much, until another (living) family moves in and they can’t stand it. In order to protect their beautiful home from the Deetz family, Adam and Barbara call in Beetlejuice ‘Free lance bio-exorcist’. A professional tease that should scare the family away. This plan backfired quickly when Beetlejuice turns out to be life-threatening.

Scream
This horror by Wes Craven meets all the criteria of a perfect slasher, and at the same time, he takes the genre to a new level. The film is full of references to classics.
Santa Rosa, the schoolgirl Sidney’s hometown, falls prey to the violent willfulness of a psychopathic serial killer. He uses all sorts of bloody tricks from various horror films in his murders. Sidney’s classmate Casey Becker is the first victim. However, Sidney’s friends don’t take the incident very seriously. On the other hand, Sydney only gets more anxious when sensational journalist Gale Weathers arrives in town. When she and her charms police officer Dewey stop the investigation, only Sidney can stop the killer. The only question is whether her knowledge of horror films is big enough.

The Addams Family
In the satirical film by debutant Barry Sonnenfeld, the viewer witnesses the Addams family’s special lifestyle who are mainly interested in death and destruction, everything grotesque and paranormal activities. Everyone around them thinks the family is weird while they are warm-hearted people who, like their neighbors, are committed to the community and are not averse to a fun party.
Uncle Fester has been missing for 25 years. A ruined lawyer discovers this and suggests a fake uncle as the long-missing Fester in order to get hold of the family’s assets. This fake uncle quickly adapts to the Addams family’s macabre life, but the family’s daughter doesn’t trust it completely.

The Babysitter: Killer Queen
The Babysitter: Killer Queen is the sequel to The Babysitter released in 2017. In Killer Queen, we once again see Cole, who, two years after defeating a satanic cult led by his babysitter Bee, is still haunted by the horrible events of that night.
Since the disappearance of Bee and her friends, no one believes Cole anymore. With the exception of his neighbor Melanie, with whom Cole is in love right up to his ears. She convinces him to go to a party at a nearby lake. When unexpectedly old enemies turn up that night, Cole has to do everything he can to survive.
