Superman the Animated Series
This film is the beginning of Superman‘s well-known Animated Series. I recently did a film review of a Superman origin story, Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Of course, I didn’t expect to see two films like this, shortly after each other. However, it’s pretty okay for me.
This is a short movie as it consists of 3 episodes. The first episode mainly takes place on Krypton, and we follow the story of his father, Jor-El. This was really cool and longer than I expected. As most of you already know, Jor-El warns everyone that the planet is dying, but no one believes him.
What I didn’t expect was to see Brainiac already. It’s a tease for future episodes, but it shows us that he was already there on Krypton. Often origin story skips this, but now it’s clear that his presence has been there since episode one. And not only does he make an appearance, but he also plays an essential role in the story.
Clark growing up
The second part is mainly about Clark Kent’s younger years and his arrival in Metropolis. First of all, we see how Clark is discovering his powers. Quickly, he knows there’s something different about him, and his parents see that too. Thus Jonathan and Martha Kent decide to tell him the truth that he is not from this planet. They show him the spaceship with which he arrived.
The second part is great, but also the least interesting one. And, that’s only due to the fact that many know his origin story. Even if I’m a sucker for these kinds of stories, I have to admit that the first and third parts were better. Now, I’m not saying the second part was trash. It’s still a very good episode/part of the film.

Superman is here to save the day!
The last part is mainly about his first times as Superman, the hero we all know. We also get an introduction to his greatest enemy, Lex Luthor. The man with the brains. Their rivalry is still very fascinating to this day. You have Superman who is just super powerful, and then you have Lex Luthor who uses his brain to try to defeat him.
Soon, Superman knows something is fishy with Lex Luthor. That he’s behind the scenes doing all kinds of things, and right away, he’s on his radar.
But I won’t say too much more, otherwise I’ll spoil the film for you.
Conclusion
Superman: The Last Son of Krypton is an excellent short film for introducing Clark Kent/ Superman. And at the same time is the beginning of the beloved Superman animated series.
