The Rules of Zombieland
Jesse Eisenberg’s character, Colombus, has a set of rules to survive in Zombieland. The most famous ones are introduced at the very beginning of the film:
- Cardio
- The Double Tap
- Beware of Bathrooms
- Wear Seat Belts
And the list goes on.
I love how he makes up his own rules and respect it to overcome this apocalypse. And, this works for him too. He’s the only one to have a list in this movie. So that means he’s a guy who needs structure, which is funny because he’s living in a chaotic world now. So it’s kind of ironic when you think about it.
All the rules are a result of him surviving or experiencing some events. For example, the cardio rule is because you have to outrun zombies. On top of that, you have to be in shape for it. The Double Tap is to hit the zombie twice, so you’re sure he’s dead. Otherwise, it could be the end of you.
Zombieland is a bloody comedy
Have you ever seen Shaun of the Dead? If your answer is “Yes” and you loved it, then you will love Zombieland as well. I’ve seen both films, and I have a slight preference for the Zombieland movie.
So if you’ve seen Shaun of the Dead, then you know this film is more about comedy than the actual gore. And believe me, some scenes are really bloody.
Normally, I wouldn’t want to live in these kinds of worlds. But, I wouldn’t mind it for only one day, as this movie makes it all seems to be fun. Taking some random weapons and shooting zombies down!
The film will make you laugh, not something you expect from a zombie film. I also consider it to be an adventure movie, although it’s not your typical backpacking trip movie.

An odd duo
Colombus (Jesse Eisenberg) meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) somewhere in the beginning. And, what a surprise duo.
They’re the complete opposite of each other. Tallahassee is this though, cowboy-looking guy who doesn’t have rules. He just goes for it and is very chaotic. And you would think that would never work with Jesse Eisenberg’s character, but it does. Although, Tallahassee may be though but his greatest goal is to find a twinkie. Yeah, I did not expect that, but it’s hilarious.
Tallahassee was my favorite character of them all. He’s funny, violent, loud, and do what the f**ks he wants.
The sisters
Another less-odd duo is the sisters, Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin.)
At first, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like them as they came off a bit selfish. On the other hand, they’re living in a world full of zombies. So that’s understandable.
I have to admit that I have a slight crush towards Emma Stone so that works in her favor. I thought they were both great, but the other two had more screentime. Therefore you feel less connected with the sisters, especially that Jesse Eisenberg is the main focus.
And I’m not the only one to have a crush on Emma Stone. Who wouldn’t, especially if there aren’t many people left and you’re still a student. Yes, I’m talking about Colombus.
Conclusion
There is a surprise guest in this film that I won’t spoil. Go see the movie to find out who it is.
Zombieland is a fun movie with lots of gore. It’s the American version of Shaun of the Dead. And, in my opinion, a slightly better movie!
