Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you?
I heard many bad reviews about the Scooby Dooby Doo movie, and that got me a bit concerned. And surprisingly, I really enjoyed the film. Was it a typical Scooby-Doo movie? Not really, they weren’t hunting a masked monster or villain in a haunted house. Instead, this film took a different approach. I thought it was okay, but many won’t agree with that decision.
Honestly, the reason why I like this Scoob! movie is that I’m buyest of the fact that there is a lot of Nostalgia in it. On top of that, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Scooby film. I loved that show when I was a kid. So this was a trip back to memory lane for me.
In addition, we got other characters from other animated tv shows. I was surprised by that because I wasn’t aware that they were going to be in the movie.
The origin story of Scooby and Shaggy was what I was looking forward to in 2020. Unfortunately, the modernization screwed it over for me. I hate it when a movie shows a smartphone to modernize the film because “this is what the new kids do.”
Let’s talk about the characters.
Frank Welker voiced Scooby-Doo, who has been doing it since 2002, so that was good. What was really unfortunate was that Matthew Lillard wasn’t cast as Shaggy. He wasn’t even notified of a new Scooby-Doo movie. Obviously, he wasn’t happy with that, and I get it. Like at least consider the guy.
Blue Falcon and Dynomutt, the Dog Wonder, were also in this movie. That surprised me because I didn’t expect the film to include other show characters. I don’t believe they played that tv show in Belgium, so I don’t know them that well. But, it was a cool addition.
Also, you know that feeling when you hear a character’s voice, but you’re like, “I know that voice, but who is it?” Well, I had that with the Blue Falcon. I had to look it up during the film on IMDB, only to discover that Mark Wahlberg voiced him. The worst part was that I’d seen Daddy’s Home 2 the day before.
Zac Efron voiced Fred in Scoob! He was fine, but I don’t remember him being that dumb. Like, what happened? I heard he got dumber with the latest animated TV show Mystery Incorporated. That kind of bumped me out, but not enough to dislike the movie.
Simon Cowell is also in this movie as himself, and he was hilarious. He gave some lousy advice thou, in which the characters immediately considered that.
Last but not least, we have Dick Dastardly. When I was watching the film and saw him, I did not immediately know who he was. At first, I was hesitant of he was the character, I thought he was. For your information: as a kid, I never knew his name. I even forgot the name of the show “Wacky Races.” While watching, I looked up “dog racing animated show” because I knew there was a dog in it. You probably know the feeling where you have to check the internet to have an answer on your question. I just had to be sure if it was the same character, and to my surprise, it was. I absolutely loved that he was the villain of the show.
Conclusion
A lot of people hate the new “Scoob!” film, and I get it. But despite all the hate, I still had a fun time.
