Extraction (2020), Netflix’s new action film
So this film is really a big action flick. It’s Chris Hemsworth fighting a lot of bad guys.
There are many close combat long shots in tight spaces. On top of that, some scenes have a shooter video game feel to it. And, Chris Hemsworth and the stunt team kicks ass. The fights are pretty entertaining to watch. Well, they’re honestly the best parts of the movie.
Many people compare the action film to John Wick, and I can understand that. Although they still feel differently and John Wick is way better, in my opinion, thou. Let’s say, John Wick fights with class, while Chris Hemsworth fights rough.
The film surprised me with its violence. I like it when a movie doesn’t hold in on its violence. It makes the film a bit more insane. However, some of the violence was towards children, which I did not expect at all. And, I’m not against movies doing these kinds of scenes. There are, in fact, war children in the world. So, why should they shy away from it? Furthermore, Extraction (2020) takes place in Bangladesh, making it more believable.
Also, there is an Indian character named Sachin (Shivam Vichare.) Honestly, Chris Hemsworth is great, but so is this guy. I don’t know why, but he was my favorite character in the film. Mostly because I didn’t expect him to be that good.

The story/plot is flat
I feel like Extraction (2020) wants to be more than a regular action film, and they give Chris Hemsworth a tragic backstory. Although this may be the case, I didn’t connect enough with the character.
And it’s not Chris Hemsworth’s fault, as he shines in this film. There was a scene where he was talking about his past, and it was interesting. But with that said, I felt like there was still something missing. Maybe it’s the lack of dialogue that makes me feel that way. I wished I knew more about him throughout the movie.
David Harbour had a small appearance in this film, which was fun. When we got our first introduction to him, I immediately compared him to Lando from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Only, because he was an old companion of Tyler Rake (Christ Hemsworth.) On the other hand, their motives are different.
The Indian boy, Ovi Mahajan (Rudhraksh Jaiswal,) is fine. I wished we knew more about his struggles of how he deals with this situation, and his dad being a crime lord. That would have made the film more interesting. When Tyler Rake was talking about his past to him, I found Ovi to be annoying. It was like a kid who kept on saying: “but why?” Well, he didn’t say exactly those words, but you get the picture.
Conclusion
If you are looking for an action film with some impressive fight scenes, Extraction (2020) is the film for you. The plot, on the other hand, is flat. But let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to see Chris Hemsworth kick ass?
