Yes, it’s the guy from The Office!
I’ve never seen the office, and I did not even know he ever directed a movie. The Office is still on my to-watch list because it seems to be a fun show. Also, because some friends recommend it to me.
A Quiet Place is directed by John Krasinski, but he also plays in it together with his real wife, Emily Blunt. That also got me by surprise, but good for him. They’re both incredible in this movie.
John and Emily’s facial expressions are extraordinary. You can feel the struggle and fear through their performances. Obviously, they also had great chemistry.
Due to this film, I can see John pull off roles like Joel from The Last of Us. He has the looks, but also his acting in A Quiet Place proved to me, he is more than he seems to be.
I’m hoping to see more from him.
Be quiet, or the monsters will come
I only started to have an interest in this movie because it has a sequel. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have watched it. The biggest reason is that I’ve seen “The Silence” once, which was garbage and it had a similar premise.
BUT
A Quiet Place is a great film. A lot of it is thanks to the direction and the acting.
There is such little dialogue or any form of audio. This is how the film finds its identity. Even as someone who is watching the movie, you’re gripped in their fear. Every sound they make can be their end.
They’re even communicating through sign language to be silent. Well, also I kinda have to mention that the daughter is deaf, so they knew how to use sign language before the apocalypse started. But, it’s a huge advantage in this world.
I found it to be nerve-shredding and so tense to watch, I tried to be quiet myself. It’s so anxious that you’re trying to check all the surroundings. At the start of the movie, we get to see why those monsters are a real threat. So we immediately know the consequences of making a sound.
I found myself caring about the family and hoping they were getting a good outcome.
The design of the monsters was CGI, but the creatures were done very well. I was impressed by how real they looked.
I love how they use different methods to survive. The use of sand, or even showing us places where you can make a sound. It’s a smart approach to show how they’ve survived that long.
Conclusion
A Quiet Place is a premise that is well executed. This could have been a disaster, but it became a tremendous enjoyable watch.
