Ever wondered what were the highest-grossing movies of all time?
Many of the movies came out in the last 10 years, but we also have to take into consideration that ticket prices are increasing.
If I adjusted inflation to the prices, we would have a totally different list. No movie could top “Gone with the Wind’s.” It made an estimation of $390 million box-office receipts (without inflation).
I won’t adjust inflation to the prices for this list.

10. Frozen II
Box office: $1,420,382,491
Frozen 2 ranked domestically within its opening weekend. It was the most lucrative animated movie ever to be released in November.
In the UK, it broke the record for an animated movie, according to The Guardian.
It also had the biggest opening worldwide for an animated movie, making $358.2 million.
9. Furious 7
Box office: $1,515,047,671
Audiences went to see Paul Walker in his final role. Sadly, the actor passed away due to a car crash in 2013 at the age of 40.
His brother took over to finish the film. The Fast and Furious Franchise gave him a proper goodbye at the end of the film.
May his soul rest in peace.
8. The Avengers
Box office: $1,518,812,988
In 2012, many comic book fans’ dreams came true.
For the first time, our favorite Marvel heroes have to team up to fight against Loki and his Alien army.
Due to this movie’s record-breaking success at the box office, it made Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey, Jr., and Scarlett Johansson three of the top ten highest-grossing actors.
7. The Lion King
Box office: $1,656,943,394
The original animated movie “The Lion King” is, without a doubt, a favorite among many Disney fans. No wonder this film reached 7th place.
Although some people were disappointed by this remake, it still made a lot of money.
Of all nine films that have earned over $1 billion overseas, The Lion King made the least in China.
6. Jurassic World
Box office: $1,670,400,637
Universal debuted the film in 4,274 theaters, the widest release in studio history.
Jurassic World was the first movie to cross $500 million in a single weekend. In China, it opened up with a massive $100 million.
It crossed the $1 billion mark “without even blinking.”
5. Avengers: Infinity War
Box office: $2,048,359,754
Avengers: Infinity War is the first movie to cross over a $2 billion mark outside of the holiday season.
It reached the $1 billion mark in only 11 days.
Despite cries of superhero fatigue, nothing stops the worldwide appetite for the Avengers!
4. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens
Box office: $2,068,223,624
The Star Wars Franchise has a special place in many movie lovers’ hearts. A lot of fans have awaited this moment since the release of their teaser.
It has become the first to gross more than $800m in the United States and Canada.
Unfortunately, the 8th and 9th movies didn’t succeed in surpassing this one.
3. Titanic
Box office: $2,194,439,542
The oldest movie on this list and it still made top 3.
Titanic was released in 1997 but had some reissues in 2012 and 2017. So you have to take into account that all of these periods are accumulated.
In 1998, it became the highest-grossing film of all time worldwide for twelve years. Until the next entry on this list surpassed it, which was also written and directed by James Cameron.
2. Avatar
Box office: $2,790,439,000
The success of this movie didn’t lie in its story, but in its visuals. The use of 3D blew lots of movie lovers away, including myself. I still name it the best 3D film ever.
Cameron’s Avatar even bested his previous film, “Titanic.” It had the widest IMAX and 3D releases of any movie up to that time.
And Cameron is not done with “Avatar.” Some new sequels are coming, which will also result in re-releases of the first film. Cameron is not giving up and is ready to claim the number one spot again.
1. Avengers: Endgame
Box office: $2,797,800,564
After 10 years, “Avengers: Endgame” has officially dethroned James Cameron’s Avatar to become the highest-grossing movie of all time.
To reach their goal, Disney re-released “Avengers: Endgame” with some additional footage. A sneaky, but a smart trick to beat “Avatar.”
Avengers: Endgame” holds the title for biggest global opening weekend with $1.2 billion.
